G20 In June 2016, the G20 Energy Efficiency Leadership Group established a taskforce on district energy, signaling its shift into the mainstream of international policymaking. This taskforce was launched by Saudi Arabia and China and is supported by Russia Singapore. Lately, district energy was also highlighted in the report entitled ‘Accelerating Energy Efficiency Progress in G20 Economies, presented during the G20 Ministerial Meeting on Energy Transitions and Global Environment for Sustainable Growth, which convened from 15-16 June 2019, in Karuizawa, Japan.
